Dam Safety
In Ghana there is no single authority responsible for the safety of dams. Dam Safety lies entirely on the shoulders of dam owners without any formalised and standardised requirements to construction, operation, maintenance and safety routines or for disaster and emergency preparedness.
Accordingly, the Commission has initiated the process of developing a third Regulations and set up of a National Dam Safety Unit to regulate and coordinate all relevant activities related to:
- Dam design,
- Construction,
- Operations and maintenance, and
- Decommissioning
The ultimate goal is to ensure uniform and adequate level of safety for all dams throughout Ghana.
